What determines the price?
- State of the current paintwork: touching up is far cheaper than rebuilding bare or flaking wood
- Working height and access: above 2 storeys scaffolding or a lift is needed
- Wood rot: affected spots must be repaired before painting can start
- Number of colours and the paint system (opaque or transparent, primer and topcoats)
- Region and season: Randstad rates run 10-20% higher; the exterior season runs April to October

Frequently asked questions
What does a painter cost per m²?
For exterior painting you pay on average € 25 to € 45 per m², including labour and paint. Interior painting costs € 10 to € 30 per m². Window frame painting costs € 75 to € 150 per frame; small jobs start from around € 95. The state of the woodwork and the working height decide where you land in the band.
When is the exterior painting season?
Roughly from April through October. The rule of thumb in the trade: at least 10 degrees, a dry surface and no rain on the way. Interior painting is possible all year round — many painters deliberately schedule it in the winter months.
How often does exterior painting need doing?
The usual cycle is 5 to 7 years. The sunny and weather sides weather faster and often come up sooner; on the coast the cycle is shorter. A yearly check-and-touch-up round keeps that cycle achievable and stops small maintenance becoming major repair.
Is a request really free and without obligation?
Yes. Submitting a request costs nothing and commits you to nothing. You receive up to 3 quotes and choose yourself — or no one, that's fine too. Prices and payment are arranged directly with the painter.
How fast will I get a response?
Painting companies in your region respond as soon as possible with a price indication. In spring, when diaries fill up, it can take slightly longer — whoever requests in winter is first in line at the start of the season.
Are the professionals vetted?
Yes. We verify Chamber of Commerce registration and business liability insurance before a company receives requests. Customer reviews factor into matching.
What happens to my data?
Your details are shared only with the (up to 3) painters matched to your request. We never resell your data and automatically delete requests after the legal retention period. See our privacy policy.
What is wood rot and what needs to happen with it?
Wood rot is wood damaged by moisture: you recognise it by soft spots, bubbling paint or dark discolouration. Repair — milling out and filling with epoxy, or partial replacement — costs € 75 to € 250 per spot and always comes before painting: paint over rotten wood won't last.
Do you also work for owners' associations and landlords?
Yes, that's even a focus. For owners' associations (VvE), landlords and commercial buildings there are maintenance contracts per m² (around € 20-40), with a fixed cycle, one point of contact and a report per round — often linked to the long-term maintenance plan (MJOP). Choose 'VvE and long-term maintenance' in the request.
Is the paint included in the price?
The guide prices on this site include labour and paint, unless stated otherwise. Always check the quote: it should state which paint system will be used and whether preparation, sealant work and scaffolding are included.
Do I get a guarantee on paintwork?
Guarantee arrangements are made directly with the painter. Many painting companies give a multi-year guarantee on exterior work, tied to the paint system used and sometimes to a maintenance arrangement. Always have the guarantee period and conditions laid down in the quote.
What if I'm not satisfied with a painter?
Let us know via our contact form. We take complaints seriously: companies with recurring complaints or without valid insurance are removed from the platform.
